KLC School of Design Specialist and vocational

KLC School of Design specialises in Interior Design and Garden Design courses. Our approach to training is highly career focused and we try to make the courses, however intensive, thoroughly enjoyable.

The school was established over 30 years ago by Jenny Gibbs FRSA MCSD BIID FICPD and has built up an outstanding international reputation over the years for providing practical, accessible and professional career training for the interior and garden design industries.

So whether your ultimate goal is to practice as a professional interior or garden designer, or whether you are simply developing a passionate interest, we are able to offer you the training you need and at times to suit you.

Highlighted Courses

Full Time Diploma Interior Design

This intensive course is totally career-orientated and our graduates are regularly placed with top design practices. Students will learn to evaluate, formulate and implement creative design solutions to meet the functional and aesthetic needs of the client. They will also explore the relationship of interior design to decorative styles, materials and finishes, crafts, technology and environmental considerations. Confidence is generated through a thorough grounding in the practical and technical aspects of the subject and coverage of professional practice. Projects include residential and commercial work and emphasis is increasingly placed on computer aided design.

The course is full time, divided into three terms and runs throughout the academic year with a Diploma awarded to those students whose work reaches the required standard. Each day is from 10.00am - 4.00pm Monday to Friday, although students frequently have to undertake considerable amount of work outside these hours.

Blended Learning Diploma Interior Design

The Blended Learning Diploma course is a combination of independent study, on-line training and workshops and tutorials held at KLC’s Studios in Chelsea Harbour. It is the same Level 5 validated Diploma qualification as the Full Time Diploma, but studied through a different method and spread over two years.

This affords students the flexibility of studying from home, but with the support and structured programme of an on-site course. This method of study also enables students to achieve the Diploma qualification in just over two years without necessarily having to give up all work and family commitments.

Certificate Interior Design (Full or Part Time)

The Certificate is residential interior design qualification which runs either full time for eleven weeks, or part time for two days a week for one year. It is an ideal training for anybody working within the industry wanting to further their career opportunities, although students with no experience can also enrol.

Part Time Certificate
The September start date runs on Monday and Tuesdays
The January start date runs on Wednesday and Thursdays

One of the strengths of KLC’s training is the small class size and the care and attention that are given to each individual student. All students are assigned a personal tutor for tutorials throughout their training.

The course is carefully overseen by Annie Guilfoyle, our Director of Garden Design Courses. Annie is an award-winning designer and an RHS Chelsea Flower Show Silver Medal winner, appearing as a consultant on various TV and radio programmes.
