ICRGU International foundation year programmes

ICRGU offers alternative entry points into Robert Gordon University, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

ICRGU courses are specifically matched to Robert Gordon University's degree programmes, but are taught in smaller classes with a more tailored approach.

Undergraduate courses include; Accounting & Finance, Business, Engineering, Construction & Surveying, Architecture, Life Sciences, Pharmacy and Art & Design.
(Undergraduate courses are offered at year one entry, with the exception of pharmacy, which is offered at university foundation level entry point)

Postgraduate courses known as our 10 week Pre-Master's include; Business, Accounting & Finance and Law.

Highlighted Courses

Architecture MArch

The MArch is a six year integrated degree, inclusive of one year working in industry. If students choose to exit after Year 3, they will receive BSc Architecture award.

Accreditation
The MArch course is fully accredited by RIBA and ARB, and in 2013 celebrated its 100th year of continuous professional accreditation from RIBA.

Portfolio Development
Students at ICRGU are given the opportunity to undergo a 3 week preparation course prior to the main September intake which focuses on developing their portfolio for commencing with the main cohort.

RIBA Part 1: awarded after Year 3
RIBA Part 2: awarded after Year 6
RIBA Part 3: professional examination is taken post-graduation. Students would progress to the final professional examination (RIBA Part 3) following a period in practical training. Successful completion of this allows you to become a Registered Architect.

Practical experience
One year in salaried employment in Year 4, which will ensure students have direct experience within a professional practice. RGU supports students with sourcing these placements, however places can never be fully guaranteed.

Teaching staff
All lecturing staff are fully trained industry professionals with vast experience and a passion for the subject.

New School of Architecture
In 2015, the School of Architecture will relocate to a brand new building, with tailor made studio space and technology to help inspire design and motivate creativity.

Accounting & Finance Degree

BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance
ICRGU offers first year entry into the BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance from Robert Gordon University. A highly reputable course, it currently ranks 16th in the UK (The Times, 2016).

By offering a dynamic combination of accounting, finance and management subjects, with the opportunity for a year long, salaried placement in their third year of studies, the university has developed a course that is truly effective for the accountancy and finance profession of today.

This course is fully accredited by Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and students can also qualify for up to 8 exemptions from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Exemptions are also given by Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

Graduates have fantastic career prospects within this field and are often in great demand from employers, including the major accountancy firms, multinational companies in a wide range of industry sectors, investment fund managers and banks.

Credit-bearing internship in Year 3
Unique in Scotland to Robert Gordon University, the 48 week internship in third year is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain practical, professional experience in an accounting or finance position.

Students earn a salary during this year and pay reduced course fees. Students are fully supported to find an internship in the UK, and will be offered CV advice and mock job interviews.

This is an excellent chance to build a strong knowledge base, and increase contacts and networking opportunities that can help future career prospects. Throughout this credit-bearing placement, students must also continue developing their academic knowledge with two carefully developed modules.

Art & Design Degrees

Business & Management Degrees

A Business and Management degree at Robert Gordon University is based at Aberdeen Business School at the stunning riverside campus of Garthdee.

Health & Life Sciences Degrees

The Health and Life Science degrees at Robert Gordon University are designed to respond to the needs of these constantly evolving and forward thinking professions. For those with strengths in the key science subjects, these degrees offer a wide range of career opportunities across numerous industry sectors, including pharmaceuticals, law enforcement, oil and gas, environmental, food and drink, and research.

When studying at Robert Gordon University, you will be immersed in the industry through a variety of internship and practical experiences, including close interaction with practitioners. Each of the Health and Life Sciences degrees includes between 30-40 percent of hands on experience; just one of the reasons why the graduate employment rate for these degrees is so high.

BSc (Hons) Nutrition
Ranked 10th in the UK (Food Science, The Times, 2016)
An important element of the course is a minimum 12 week practical work placement in the final year (subject to availability) that gives students an opportunity to try out their skills and gain confidence in the workplace. You may work alongside a nutritionist in research, food and drink company or a government agency.

BSc (Hons) Forensic and Analytical Science
This problem solving degree looks far beyond the skills featured in CSI! Analytical Chemistry is a key focus, helping increase employability across sectors, such as oil and gas and pharmaceuticals, and developing a vast range of investigative techniques. The development of a brand new Crime Scene House and the inclusion of court room 'expert witness' role play will help ensure all aspects of this fascinating profession are covered.

BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science
Biomedical Scientists work in partnership with doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals, performing many different roles in research, the diagnosis of disease, the evaluation of treatment methods and research.

BSc (Hons) Bioscience with Biomedical Science
Offering a varied range of modules, this degree looks deeper than purely human biology, with opportunities for graduates in scientific publishing, secondary school teaching, forensic analysis and environmental consultancy.

Foundation Pathway to Pharmacy

Robert Gordon University has a long and distinguished record of producing graduate pharmacists of the highest calibre. Currently ranked 4th in the UK (The Guardian, 2016), students on this integrated master’s degree enjoy a high level of practical experience across disciplines, including hospital and community pharmacies, laboratory work and the on campus Pharmacy Simulation Centre.

This is the only pathway at ICRGU to commence at Foundation level (with entry from high school) and will develop key skills, knowledge, confidence and practical skills before joining Year 1. Progression into the Master of Pharmacy is guaranteed, as long as minimum pass mark is achieved.

Postgraduate Pre-Master's

This pathway is specifically designed to allow international students to reach their full potential in pursuit of a Postgraduate degree at Robert Gordon University.

Gaining a Postgraduate degree, whether it is to specialise in a particular area, for your own continuous personal development or to increase your employability, will stand you on great stead for your future career path.
